Did you know?
You may have heard about the advantages of running dual-channel memory to increase the speed of your system. Dual-channel architecture DDR/DDR2 SDRAM describes a motherboard technology that effectively doubles data throughput from RAM to the memory controller. The dual-channel configuration alleviates the problem of bottleneck, by doubling the amount of available memory bandwidth. Instead of a single memory channel, a second parallel channel is added. With two channels working simultaneously, the bottleneck is reduced and the system performance is improved.
However, using a dual-channel configuration (e.g. 512MB + 512 MB or 1GB + 1GB) is not always the best way to maximise performance. The optimal configuration depends on the applications being used.
Our engineers recommend:
- For customers that have 512MB installed, it is best to add 1GB or 2GB to improve performance. Adding 512MB for dual-channel benefit is not as important as adding 1GB or 2GB.
- For customers that have 1GB, it is best to add 1GB for customers using streaming video applications. Dual-channel benefit is for large quantities of streaming data environments.
- For customers that have 1GB, it is best to add 1GB or 2GB for customers using office applications.
